[After their traumatic experience in the shrine dungeon, and the fiasco with the police and the bears, Toki thinks he and Rei deserve a nice, quiet day at home. Instead of breakfast in bed as he had once planned, Toki has decided to go for an indoor breakfast picnic, since their last one was also a bit of a disaster. Joroko helped with the set-up, instead of Toki calling on Terry or Kido. He wanted to do everything himself, and technically Joroko is part of him.
Toki returns to the bedroom, where he'd left Rei sleeping. Not sure if she's awake yet, he gently brushes her arm.]
[ Rei likes to sleep in when she has the chance so she's still asleep when Toki returns. She stirs a bit, not wanting to leave the warmth of the bed just yet, but she'll push herself up. She rubs one of her eyes. She's still not fully awake and it's clear in her voice. ]
[Very early. There were a couple mishaps, but he succeeded for the most part in the end. Rei might see some flour and assorted baking ingredients on Toki's pyjamas, or in his hair. He was so excited at his accomplishments, he never cleaned up.]
[He takes Rei's hand from his hair, and kisses it, before pulling her from the bed.
In the living room beside the kotatsu, there's a blanket spread out on the floor. Slightly off-center is a large basket filled with assorted breakfast things. Nothing is cute or designed nicely, but the point is that they're not all burnt and inedible.
There are slices of crispy toast, lopsided chocolate muffins, a stack of misshapen too-thick pancakes; in between the "baked goods" are jars of honey, strawberry jelly, and peanut butter. There's also a bottle of chocolate syrup, a canister of whipped cream, and a shaker of cinnamon. Beside the basket are beverages: the entire containers of orange juice and milk directly pulled from the fridge, and a thermos of hot chocolate.
Two places have been set with large plates, utensils, and plastic cups because he didn't trust himself with glass. The kotatsu is providing warmth, but Toki has also set out extra blankets just in case.]
[ She follows him out into the living room, bouncing with excitement and when she sees everything set out on the floor, she is not disappointed. Rather than immediately rushing over and eating, she turns to Toki and throws herself at him for a big hug. ]
Tokidoki, this is perfect! Thank you!
[ She'll tug on his shirt a bit while leaning on her toes to pepper him with kisses. This is so sweet. ]
[ She'll hold onto Toki's hand to pull him to the blanket, making sure that he sits right next to her. She doesn't know what to eat first. Everything looks good and she can definitely finish everything on her own, but she wants to share this with Toki. ]
I know that you've made this for me, but I want to eat it with you. Food is more delicious when you share it with the people that you love!
[Toki was intending to eat as well, so her enthusiasm for it is good. He'll still let Rei eat the majority of things. Toki doesn't have Rei's dilemma over what to eat first. He's going with whatever he touches. It's a muffin.]
[ Especially since they always seem to run into some sort of trouble or another when they go out... so she's content to just stay home, eat, cuddle, and enjoy herself. She'll start with the toast, making sure to fill it with plenty of jelly, probably three times more than what you should actually put on a single serving. ]
[Toki eats his muffin slowly, because he wants to get a feel for what he should change next time. It's a little bitter, and maybe he didn't use enough sugar. Perhaps an experiment is needed. He feels around for the chocolate syrup to pour on top.]
I asked Terry to help me learn to make pancakes and it was... kind of a disaster, but I've been practicing with Joroko after. She's... better at it.
[Sorry, Terry. But Joroko's instructions are far more clear.]
[ Unlike Toki, Rei devours her food in a few quick bites. She has to eat fast if she wants to enjoy everything! Plus, you can't mess up toast, right? Maybe she can't even taste anything off with it since she slathered it with jelly. She waits till her mouth is empty before she speaks again. ]
Really? T-chan is normally good at cooking. He taught me how to make food.
It's probably my fault! I don't always get things right away! And he kind of started off by trying to do everything for me and didn't even let me open the cabinets...
[That kind of annoyed him. Joroko understands Toki's need for supervision and instruction without sacrificing independence, and the importance of giving him room to figure things out for himself.]
Maybe Joroko can just read me his recipes for things! Then I can try something more complicated~!
Oh, maybe like the cute cake and cupcakes that Red made for our wedding! I didn't know that you could make food that cute and pretty!
[ Though this would be their result... Rei is still eating through everything, moving from one thing to another. She has absolutely no complaints. They could taste awful and she'd still eat it. :9 ]
[Toki knows his attempts at breakfast don't even compare to Red's baking, but it's nice to hear just the same. Two muffins are about enough for him, and he'll drink a quarter of the milk before setting it back down and sprawling on the blanket, like they're outside in the woods or something. Only it's quiet and warm.]
Rei... how long do you think we'll have here?
[It used to seem so far away, the end of their stay in Hirajiro, but the last dungeons are fast approaching and now that he knows the truth about Inaba, everything's unknown again.]
[ Now that it seems like Toki is done with eating, Rei will finish off the rest. It will take her absolutely no time to finish, especially with the way that she always inhales her food. She's already halfway done with everywhere when Toki calls out her name, grabbing her attention. Ah, that question... She lowers the muffin in her hands, holding it down in her lap. ]
I think... maybe a month or two. This is going to be our last Daitengu and everyone wants to fight the Kotengu so...
[ Rather than jumping back home right away, they're going to stay and fight so that gives them a bit more time, but it definitely won't be peaceful. ]
[Two months can seem agonizingly long at times, but Toki thinks it will be too fast this time; they'll be making their decision on leaving before he knows it.]
[ The heavy topic starts to make Rei's appetite go away so she places the half-eaten muffin back in the basket and goes to lie down with Toki, curling up against him. ]
What... should we do? T-chan says that there aren't any other steps after marriage and sex, but I don't want to miss anything... I want to do everything before we have to leave...
[ He did mention that having kids was an optional step, but that definitely can't be a thing for a number of reasons. She trusts that Terry was telling the truth about relationships, but she should also ask Toki since he's the one that she actually married. She doesn't want to have any regrets if it turns out that they can't stay or go to a different world. ]
I don't think we've missed anything... Not like that, not something we should do, or a milestone to be met or anything... I just- I don't think there'll ever be enough time with you.
[She'd dead. They'll have to leave this world. Toki's world is due for an apocalypse. In every possible future to him, there's no time left.]
[ She squeezes his hand and curls up a bit tighter. Sad is an understatement. Her heart aches, thinking about the the time left for them. Their marriage would only last a few months. ]
What-- What if we don't go through the door? And we go really far away before everyone opens the door to leave?
idk 1/7?
Toki returns to the bedroom, where he'd left Rei sleeping. Not sure if she's awake yet, he gently brushes her arm.]
Rei? Good morning~ I have a surprise.

Oh, breakfast! What did you make?
[ She'll reach over to pat away the flour off Toki's clothes and hair. He'll need a bath after this. ]

I thought we could use a nice day at home.
[Going outside just invites chaos.]

[ Especially since Toki is blind, it's not like he can just watch. He'll have to actually try. ]
But maybe next time, we can make something together. I'm not super good at cooking, but I know more now!

[He still appreciates cute food. Toki tries some toast next, and it's not as bad as he thought it would be. Not too burned and charred.]
